Fully marked cast iron door made by Portland Stove Foundry Co. Cool piece for the collector and still quite usable. Sold for less than you’d buy a modern one for, but with a much higher cool factor. Sold as found with some mortar still in the frame. Not sure if the green color is a factory original or if was painted later. Drop hinged so that the door swings down.

12” x 10” with frame.

Interesting mold that appears to be chocolate, donuts or candy rings. Appears to be cast aluminum with a iron hinge pin, but it could be tin. Fairly heavy for the size. 3” 5/8 diameter. Roughly 1” tall. Hinged. Not magnetic except at the pin. Seems to be in excellent shape. Looks like it could just be washed and used
Marked: with a number which is unreadable. Three digits – maybe a 308 or something like that.
No cracks or chips.

This is a small wrought iron blacksmith made trivet/hot plate/grill with 1” 1/4 inch legs. that is probably high enough that you could throw a few coals beneath a piece and use it to cook – BUT I suspect it was really meant to be a hot plate/cooling rack for smaller pieces that just came off the hearth.
Measures 5” 1/2 x 5” 5/8. legs are approximately 1” 1/4 inches tall.

This is the oldest cast iron mortar and pestle we’ve EVER run across. This could be considerably earlier than stated above, but to be conservative these are very hard to date. Piece was made from a 2-3 piece molding process, and hand aligned to put the whole thing together. the base was not quite aligned right and you can see the cup sits off center on the base, which often happened with early American pouring. Rudimentary ornamental design to the base (a decorative ring), crude casting with voids and flaws from the imprecision of sand casting using early casting methods. Pestle is very basic. Piece has some roughness and pitting.
No marks save for the sprues.
Pestle is 9” 3/4 long. Mortar is 6” high, 6” 1/2 diameter.
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, lip has flaws that could be chips or just molding flaws (based on the piece as a whole I’d lean towards that. This piece could be used but really it’s a museum quality display piece which is how I’d use it.

This is a fairly uncommon piece. You see the big ones for feeding pigs all the time, but the smaller ones tend to be harder to come by. This is a Mountville Manufacturing Co. Feeder meant to be used for chickens and smaller animals. It’s been cleaned, lead tested and seasoned. It will be a great display piece or a great user for someone looking to convert it to a bread pan. sprue marked. Has supports to stop it from falling to a side Has a small drainage hole in the bottom, but that can easily be sealed if so desired. Condition is very good – has some pouring flaws and some minor signs of age.
Marked: “Mountville M’F’G Co. PA” inside the trough.
23” 1/2 x 6” 1/2 x 3” 1/2 high.
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Iron is not finished like cookware.

This is a cute little toy sad iron in the shape of duck or swan cruising on the water. I tend to think its a swan based on the neck. Anyhow this adorable little thing would make a great display piece for someone.
Size: ~2” 1/4 long and 1” 1/4 high.
Unmarked.

Item 2171
Way out of our usual baliwick, I have been using this trench art piece made from a cut down Imperial German WW I artillery shell casing to hold loose change on my desk for the past few years. Now I’m ready to part with it.
This is a shell made in 1915 at the Polte Magdeburg manufacturing center and after a lot of research I believe it was made for either the 10 cm K-99, or the 10 cm Kanone 04. Based on the shell’s manufacture date it probably was one of the earliest shells made for the Kanone 04. The 252 is the inspection marker on the shell, but I’m not sure about the 274 – and I suspect it was a batch number.
Marked: “274 Polte Magdeburg Oct 1915, sp252”
12 cm in diameter at the base and 11CM at the upper rim. Stands 3cm tall.

Very decorative Victorian era cast iron oval picture frame with elaborate patterning. Really beautiful. Just add a piece of glass (we can have one cut for you at an additional charge – but I suggest you have it done locally) and a cardboard or wooden backing board. Really spectacular.
