Museum quality historical iron. It’s hard to know what to make of this one – as it lacks many of the features that allow us to date something precisely. However this style of cast iron bowl/pan were made between 1800-1860. This does not have much of a rim which suggests it was not designed for wood stove use, but was probably used with a butler’s trivet over an open hearth. Interior has some minor pitting. This could easily be used but would probably best be used as a display piece.
Unmarked.
11” 1/2 diameter, ~ 2” 3/4
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Not designed for stovetop use but for sitting in a hearth. Cooking surface has casting flaws and light pitting

Nice little scotch bowl #3 made between 1870-1910 by an unknown foundry. Nice simple design, clean lines. Has some casting flaws on the interior and some very light pitting but this one will be great for use. Nice bail with wood handle makes it easy to handle
Marked: “3” on the bottom;
10” 3/8 diameter, 4” 1/2 tall
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips, or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is mostly smooth but has casting flaws and some light pitting. Pits should smooth over and fill in with use. Will only get better.

More of a display piece than a user, but it could absolutely be used, especially for deep frying, soups, and stews. Scotch bowl #4 with ring stand base made between 1870-1910 by an unknown foundry. Has a fair bit of pitting on the interior and some more on the outside and bottom from being used over a wood fire or stove.

Nice older six cups baking pan (the cookies/cakes they made were known as gems – hence the name gem pan) for pastries in the fluted design known as the “Turks Head”. Over 100 years, possibly even 150 years old. Wing style handles and twin gate marks on the center cups that have been mostly smoothed. Sits on the gates, so does not sit flat on a sheet of glass.
Unmarked
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No chips, cracks. Sits on it’s gate marks so there is wobble, but that was typical of the gated ones. Cooking surface is typical of gems of that era.

These mysterious unmarked breakfast skillets turn up from time to time and cause some speculation about who really made them. While some do think these were made by Lodge, others just aren’t sure. Odds are they were made a store brand by a smaller foundry who sold them to a number of outlets who put a paper label on them. They are cool little pieces with absolutely no markings, and they are certainly less common than the Wagner and Griswold models. Cooking surface has the typical pebbled finish of breakfast griddles as the piece could not be polished the same way. There are some casting flaw visible here and a few tool marks, but nothing which should effect use. Tiny bit of wobble means this will not be good for a glass top stove but should be great on gas or coils. Not the best seasoning job (see the spot on the bottom) but that will fade away as the piece darkens.

8” 3/4 x 8” 3/4 plus the handle.
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks or chips. Tiny wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is good, but pebbled to the touch and will only improve with use

Fully restored and ready to use this is a John Wright baking pan depicting a sleigh full of toys. The pan is shaped like a sleigh, but the cookie made are shaped like traditional Christmas toys. Iron is in like new shape, some minor splotches of seasoning are present (almost inevitable with gem pans this detailed), but they should fade from view as the pan blackens with use.
Marked: “1986 John Wright Co. A Sleigh full O’ toys Cast in USA”
15” x 7”
Stripped to bare iron via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Sits on iron legs. Good, typical gem pan finishing.

Cast Iron nutcracker that appears to have been made for shelling walnuts. This style started bing used about 1880 and was probably popular up until the 1930s. I’d guess this one is early 20th century. This device makes it easy to shell large numbers of nuts in a very short time. Piece is mounted on a hardwood base. Has a hook for hanging.
