This one is an odd duck. I love old iron string balls, the type that hung in so many shops back in the day (so that the clerks could wrap your package in paper and twine before handing them off for you to take home), and I do pick them up whenever I see them. This one looked like it had been painted green when I found it, but it was magnetic, and I could tell that it was iron underneath. Imagine my surprise when I started scraping it and realized it was plated with copper. This piece must have hung in a very high end establishment – someplace like a Tiffany or Bloomingdales back in the day. it was certainly dolled up to be fancy. I don’t think you’ll ever see another one like it.
Roughly 5” high and 4” in diameter.
Exterior has buffed to expose the beautiful copper and interior lightly washed with vinegar and table salt to remove the worst of the green tarnishing.
No cracks, chips
