Walker and Pratt were a foundry based in Watertown, MA along the bank of the Charles river which was established by Miles Pratt in the 1850s and it became Walker & Pratt sometime after the Civil War (for which they cast cannon balls and shot), but before 1885. Sometime Between 1905-1912 the name simply became Walker Pratt. That dates this piece between 1885-1912. This was an ornate decorative simmering cover for a wood stove (which is one of the products they made). Very cool piece that is over 100 years old.
Marked: “W. & P. Mfg. Co. Simmering Cover” on the bottom.
7” 1/2 diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
