Bakestone or baking sheet of the type used in the British Isles pre 1900 and called Welsh or Irish bakestones. While this one sport a handle that looks very modern it is clearly a center poured piece – and pouring flaws and traces of a bottom gate or even a sprue can be seen on the face and bottom (though to be fair they are hard to differentiate as the foundry clearly tried to clean up the flash on this piece). For that reason I’m very hesitant to date it definitively. This is far too large to be a comal, and it is a VERY thick heavy pieces of iron for heat retention for development of a nice crust, just like a pizza stone (and in fact I’d bet you could make an awesome pizza on this. I’d say this is pre WW II and probably earlier, but that is a guess based on design. Dead flat
12” 3/4 diameter excluding handle
Cleaned using lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil
No cracks or chips. Dead flat on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface has some large pouring flaws, but they should not effect use.
$125 shipped (very heavy)
