This is a very old kettle made by a small foundry using flask cast method. Stylistically its very much an early American piece with a heavy bottom gate mark, New England style ears, heavy triangular legs and a square section hand wrought bail. Side has a stylized crown like mark (inside what I think is a pair of wings) beneath the letters B and R with what looks to be a stylized flask which looks to have been an artistic interpretation of an ampersand (&) between the letters. There is a casting void (a hole) which goes all the way though the wall of the kettle about 2/3 of the way down that right “wing”. It is less than a 1/16” wide. Interior is beautifully smoothed with obvious pouring flaws still visible. \Yes you could use this but I think this should be a display piece.
Marked “B & R” please note the “&” is my interpretation of what the artistic flask between the letters is.
7” 7/8 diameter, ~5” 1/2 tall
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is beautifully smoothed for such an old piece, but has casting flaws.

SOLD AS FOUND. Lightly cleaned but not restored.
This should be used as a display piece somewhere – maybe in a museum, historical house, or in a top notch private collection. This hinged old cast iron match holder / safe was made before 1850 and features a floral motif. It was certainly painted or plated with metal back in the day. This is an excellent casting and I’m tempted to think this was a Bradley & Hubbard Co piece (based on the fact we found it with several from that maker and the quality is similar) but there are no markings to tell me. This could easily be painted or japanned and restored to beautiful shape, but I did not want to ruin the as found look here (as I know less about match holders than cookware). But this is a cool as heck piece. There is a hairline crack in the lid about 1.5 inches long but it is stable and could be stabilized even more by repainting the box.
4” 7/8 x 3” x 1 (excluding height of lid).
Cleaned lightly but not restored. SOLD AS FOUND.

This is a promotional advertising skillet made for Dwight Eisenhower’s 1952 presidential run for president. This is a VERY rare piece as not a single cast iron collector or any of the presidential collectors we have spoken to have ever seen one. It appears to have been cast by Martin Stove and Range in Birmingham Alabama based on the design and style. It looks like it was originally plated with brass and swathes of it remain and what is left is a very cool patina. This is a special piece for any collector.

*High carbon steel knives are highly sought after knives loved by professional and home cooks alike due to the quality of the steel, the edge it maintains and the hardness that is not matched by other knives. If you don’t believe me, take a look the opinions of Alton Brown. Please note these are NOT stainless steel knives, they do require a little bit of care (prompt washing and drying after use, occasional sharpening, etc), but hey, if you can maintain a cast iron pan you’ll find this a piece of cake. Over time they will develop a patina, and even stain. But they are probably the best quality steel knives you’ll ever use.

Razor sharp! I.P Hyde is still in business making painting products and knives for industrial use. He started out making knives for shoe makers and in fact this knife could have originally been meant for that kind of use. Today however it will make a very nice slicing knife. Round handled with round bolster and a hidden tang, secured with a pin in the same fashion as those used in old Japanese swords.

Razor sharp! I love Meridian blades – in fact my favorite knife in my kitchen is one of their blades that I’ve had for years and years. This one is a a reversed angle slicer with an 8” inch blade, full tang, triple riveted hard wood handles (scales), and a nice polished blade. Fully restored and ready for use. Meridian was a Connecticut knife maker who made blades in Meridian, CT from 1855 to 1916, at which point they were purchased by Landers, Frary and Clark who used that name until 1924.

This is a sexy, sexy little pan, gorgeously cast (among the nicest castings I’ve seen) and a mystery to boot. It was a mess when we found it, and even then we were intrigued. After all we had no idea who A.C. was but the pan was clearly old, and had a separately cast handle that was later peened into place. Determination of origin came from the #4 size – a European sizing for older cooking pots. Extensive research has shown this to be French made. Cooking surface is very lightly textured, as it was smoothed but not stone polished. Sits dead flat.
Marked: “4 AC” with the AC in a stylized font, inside a cartouche style logo on the bottom of the pan.
10” 3/4 diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips, or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is lightly textured. Will only get better and smoother with with use.

Not iron, or even cooking related but something interesting that turned up in our inventory. This is old dime and pennies coin counter, presumably for rolling coins. Not quite sure how it was used as it’s not marked, but I suspect it was a commercial piece that mounted in a till for counting out coins. Glass tube, bottom plug and funnel in great shape.
Marked: “Abbott Coin Counter Co. Pat’D May 7, 12”
