  • #2348 Gated bowl - 1

    Item 2348

Please note all pictures on our site are of the actual piece you will receive, not a stock photo of a similar piece. Additionally all our pieces unless marked otherwise are fully restored and seasoned. Just wash them and start cooking.

Museum quality historical iron. It’s hard to know what to make of this one – as it lacks many of the features that allow us to date something precisely. However this style of cast iron bowl/pan were made between 1800-1860. This does not have much of a rim which suggests it was not designed for wood stove use, but was probably used with a butler’s trivet over an open hearth. Interior has some minor pitting. This could easily be used but would probably best be used as a display piece.

    Unmarked.

    11” 1/2 diameter, ~ 2” 3/4

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips. Not designed for stovetop use but for sitting in a hearth. Cooking surface has casting flaws and light pitting

  • #1585 ET Clark bowl no 26

    Item 1585
Please note all pictures on our site are of the actual piece you will receive, not a stock photo of a similar piece.  Additionally all our pieces unless marked otherwise are fully restored and seasoned.  Just wash them and start cooking.

This piece was rough when it came in, so rough that restoring it was the only option in order to save it.  And it appears to be old – as in close to 200 years old.  Bottom gated with very fine casting.  It appears to read E. T. Clark, but there is enough pitting on the bottom to make what I think is a “k” indistinct and the “2” is hard to read too.  If there are other markings I cannot find them.  There was an English firm called Edward Thomas Clark from 1827 -to 1836 (when it was renamed T. C. Clark).  If this is the case this is one of the very first piece made for wood stoves (as it has a heat ring) which only came into use at about those same dates This has no bail, or bail attachments which again suggests age.  Sadly the piece has two hairline cracks and a chip from somewhere in it’s lifespan which detracts quite a bit from it, BUT at this age the fact it is in such good shape and could even be used is pretty amazing.  Heck if you added 2 layers of seasoning to this you could probably seal the cracks so well that you could use it normally.  Evidence of more than a century of use is seen in tool marks and light pitting and even some casting flaw.  That said the interior is remarkably smooth – similar to modern Lodge cookware even at it’s worst spots.  I believe this is a flask cast piece, but so finely done that the line can only be noted on the squaring of the interior of the bowl.

Marked: “E. T. Clar(k) N(o. 2)”  writing in brackets is to the best of my ability to read.  There may be additional markings but if so they are illegible to me.

    9” diameter, 3” 1/4 tall

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips.  Good sized wobble when tested on a sheet of glass.  Glassy cooking surface.

  • #2104 Wapak #4 scotch bowl - 2

    Item 2104

Please note all pictures on our site are of the actual piece you will receive, not a stock photo of a similar piece. Additionally all our pieces unless marked otherwise are fully restored and seasoned. Just wash them and start cooking.

Based on an Erie scotch bowl (as evidenced by the Erie ghost mark) with ears typical of Wapak and Favorite. There is also a partial ghost of “patented”. Some casting flaws, including a mold collapse and a sand inclusion can be seen on the outside of the bowl. Has nice polishing marks up the walls of the bowl but the interior has some light pinpoint type pitting on the bottom where water likely sat for years. Luckily it’s very fine and should not effect use (I use a very similar one as a small wok ). Will only improve with use. Most likely based on history – this was a Wapak made modification of the Erie – pattern 782 bowl. Not good for a glass top, but perfect for a gas range.

Only marks are the ghost marks mentioned above. They are very hard to see in pictures.

    11” 1/2 diameter

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips. Sits on the rounded bowl bottom so wobbles when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface has pinpoint type pitting – but should be fine for most uses nd will only improve with use.

  • #2227 Japanese Mijii era serving dish07

    Item 2227

Please note all pictures on our site are of the actual piece you will receive, not a stock photo of a similar piece. Additionally all our pieces unless marked otherwise are fully restored and seasoned. Just wash them and start cooking.

This is a bit of a mystery piece – based on the fact that the piece is marked Japan in English we know it was made at the earliest in Japan’s Mejii era (as that is when Japan opened to the west). It has hallmarks of that era and may well be from the late Mejii, or slightly thereafter. This piece may have been one that sat as a lid upon a large jar, possibly a tea container, and which could be flipped over and the content moved into the lid for inspection or weighing. However it makes and excellent server. Thin and ornate. Has floral pattern around the entire outside and a lip similar to a stove eye lip. Piece has some degree of pitting but is an extraordinary piece.

    Marked: “Japan” on the bottom.

upper diameter at lip is 9” 3/4, middle diameter at ring is just under 12”, stands roughly 3” tall and has an interior depth of between 2” 1/2-3”

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips. Stands on three stubby legs. Cooking surface has some pitting. Honestly just a special piece of iron.

This is a nice old scotch bowl made by an unknown foundry probably up in New England.  Nice little historical piece.  Has some casting flaws (see pics) including an a mold collapse which has made one of the ears lopsided.  Interior has a patch of very light pitting.

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

    Item 2226

Please note all pictures on our site are of the actual piece you will receive, not a stock photo of a similar piece. Additionally all our pieces unless marked otherwise are fully restored and seasoned. Just wash them and start cooking.

Wapak scotch bowl made with their early ear design and the early logo. Probably dates this one to before 1910. Interior of the bowl is very good but has some tool marks and very fine pinpoint pitting in a few places. Not quite glassy, but this one should get there easy. I use a very similar one as a wok in my home.

Marked: Wapak line logo and the numbers “3”

10” diameter (excluding ears and tabs)

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips, Small wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface has very minor flaws – flea bite tool marks, and some tiny pits that should smooth over with seasoning and only improve.

Very pretty!  Wapak scotch bowl made from Erie patterns with some ghosting of Erie markings (size number and pattern number).  Wapak used a lot of the Erie patterns when Griswold/Erie was done with them.  This is made from the 781 scotch bowl pattern and while most of the Erie markings were covered over you can still read the size and pattern numbers.  Hs the Wapak double circle logo.  Interior of the bowl is very good but has some tool marks and minor scarring from pinpoints of rust.  Not quite glassy, but this one should get there easy.  Bottom shows some pitting from wood stove use.  I use a very similar one as a wok in my home.

Marked:  Wapak double circle logo and has the ghost numbers “3” and “781”

10” diameter (excluding ears and tabs)

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips, bow, or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass.  Cooking surface is has minor flaws – flea bite tool marks, and some tiny pits that should smooth over with seasoning and only improve.
