I’ve never seen another griddle anything like this – it was found on a farm high in New England where the family had used it as a griddle for over 50 years. Yet I’m not sure if this was cast as a griddle or was a converted piece of yankee frugality – as it reminds me a lot of a historical marker or city marker, and I wonder if at some point it had a copper plaque that was removed and sold for scrap. If so the farmer did a remarkable job at converting it. It’s smooth and slick, and shows signs of wood fire use on the bottom. Will cover up a whole stovetop of four-five or possibly even six burners.
24” 5/8 x 18” 3/4 x 1/2” thick
No markings.
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks or chips. SITS FLAT. Cooking surface has casting flaws and some light pitting – should only get smoother with use.
$250 shipped (sorry but this piece is big and heavy (over 40 pounds) and will need special packing and shipping)

Very unique deep long pan/double griddle – which may have also have doubled as a sad iron tray, or shallow fryer. Handles have a “whales tail” design. Probably made to fit a very specific wood stove back in the day – but today will make an excellent griddle. Bottom gated with a single gate – suggesting it is a pre-1870 piece. Cooking surface probably looks as good as it did the day it was poured with some casting flaws and roughness from not being stone polished. Bottom shows pitting from wood stove use. Has a 3/4” well.
Unmarked
19” 3/4 handle to handle, outer lip to outer lip is 17” x 8”. Interior dimensions are 15” 3/4 x 6” 3/4 x 3/4” deep
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks or chips. Gate marked on the bottom so will wobble sheet of glass. Cooking surface is very good but it has casting flaws typical of the age. Should only improve with use.

I don’t know who manufactured this, but it is based on the 1864 patent by Addison Overbagh who designed what he called an improved egg fryer. in any case it’s a cool old piece with the original handle used by Overbagh, but with a scalloped rather than round outer edge where the scalloping corresponds to the cup placement. Truth be told it’s just an amazingly cool old piece. While this is very similar to an plett pan the cup size is somewhat larger – being designed to hold an egg “of ordinary size” according to the patent application. Casting is very good for the era but it does have minor flaws as expected. Entire edge has been ground suggesting the piece had a lot of flash when poured.
Marked: “Pat”d 1864” on the handle.
Roughly 12” in diameter at the widest (excluding handle) and 16” long handle to end.
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Slight wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is excellent for the age.

This is a fascinating old plett pan unlike any I’ve ever seen before. It’s clearly early and I’m pretty sure there was a nice bottom gate that was worn away by stove use, but I can’t even be sure of that as the edges were factory ground to remove flash. BUT there does appear on the bottom and center cup to be a pouring flaw from a center pour. I can’t even swear this one is American made, but if it isn’t it’s definitely a European piece. Very unique extremely angled downward handle with a large bulbous handle end. It’s certainly somewhat primitive. Shaped to the cups which are larger than the typical plett cups at 3” 1/2 each. Some minor sulfur pitting on bottom. Wobbles on a sheet of glass.
Unmarked.
11” diameter at widest points. (excluding handle).
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Wobbles when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is on the primitive side, with casting flaws and some light wear. Will only get better.

This is the smallest double griddle/sad iron heater I’ve come across. Made for use with an old wood stove It’s a very usable piece which would also look great as a display piece. The piece isn’t perfect, it has some casting flaws which adds some roughness to the cooking surface. Has a well about 5/8” deep so it can be used for poaching, roasting, or even frying. Side “wings” allowed it to sit in a wood stove without falling.
Marked: Unmarked.
17” 3/4 handle to handle, outer lip to outer lip 15” 3/4” x 7” 3/4 (at the wings), 5/8” deep. Inner cooking surface 14” x 5” 3/4
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks or chips. Sits on it’s gate mark so it won’t sit flat on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface has minor tool marks and casting flaws. Should only improve with use.
