Nice BSR (Birmingham Stove and Range) Century skillet from the 1950s. Sits flat, smoothed but not stone polished (factory finish) – so it has a slightly textured surface. This is a solid user level skillet that will be great for searing, and general cooking. Like all BSR skillets this has a heat ring and the distinctive shaped to the underside of the handle. There is a small casting flaw in the heat ring of this piece.
Marked: “Made in USA No. 5 8 1/8 In”
8” 1/8 diameter excluding spouts and handles.
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips or wobble. Cooking surface is non-polished BSR and is rougher than the glassy polished pieces that BSR produced. There are only a few tiny flea bite tool marks that should fill in easily with use. Should only improve with use.

Museum quality historical iron. Made between 1820-1850 this piece is at least 160 years old and could be as old as 220 years old. this appears to be a transition piece – hanging so that it could be used over a hearth fire, but with a deep wide rim that would allow it to sit inside a stove eye on an early wooden stove. This is a deep skillet/kettle – bowl-like with a bottom gate. Has a blacksmith wrought bail, and New England style ears. Slightly rounded bottom with no legs. Not surprising due to the age (and casting method) there are some casting flaws and the exterior bottom shows light pitting from wood stove use. Very usable – but a real gem for display. Has a nice rim “7/8 wide around the outer edge.
Unmarked.
11” diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Not designed for stovetop use but for hanging or sitting in a stove eye. Cooking surface has casting flaws and tool marks.

Really a special one. This was a very finely cast deeper spider skillet (skillet with legs) with the rounded bottom (posnet style) made before 1870. Very usable but the piece does have some minor surface imperfections from both casting (voids) and a very light pitting. Bottom gated. Pieces like this probably had tin lids, if they had any at all (although we do have one with an iron lid if you check out piece #1977). Fancier handle shaped much like a duck bill, with a gentle groove on the top. Stands on three legs. Would be great for a Civil War re-enactor.

8” 3/4 diameter (excluding handle)
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Cooking surface has some roughness due to casting flaws and light pitting, but most of this will smooth over quickly with use.

DISPLAY PIECE.
A display piece that will look great in any kitchen. This is an old spider skillet which was made for hearth or fireside cooking. It looks primitive and is not suitable for using without a repair so it has been made ready for display. Sits on three triangular legs. Gate marked on the bottom. We are calling this a display piece because of a small (slightly larger than a pinhole) hole in one wall.
9” 7/8 diameter, 5” 1/4 tall. Handle is 7 long.
Cleaned via electrolysis and painted to prevent rust for display.

I don’t know a lot about Findlay except that they were in business for over a century making iron in Carleton Place Ontario. I don’t find a large amount of Canadian iron and I’ve never found a #6 skillet by this company. This one doe not sit flat as it has a good center bow. Still it’s an awfully pretty skillet with interesting markings – you might call them ghosts from a previous pattern. I can only making out a DD and a few other letters. Beautiful stone polished interior with great polishing marks. Almost glassy to the touch and will get there with just a little use.
Marked: “Findlay Carelton Place Ont No6” on the bottom of the pan.
9” diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Big wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is almost glassy, and looks unused. Should become glassy smooth with use.

If this had not been in rough shape when we found it we would have left it alone and sold it as is, but due to condition it made sense to restore this piece in order to preserve it. After restoration this is a piece that is museum quality and would be great displayed in a historical setting.
A real collector piece this is a serious bit of old historical iron. Made between 1820-1850 this piece is at least 160 years old and could be as old as 220 years old. Designed for use over open fire this hanging skillet/kettle is bowl-like and cast using the flask casting method with a bottom gate. Has a blacksmith wrought bail, and New England style ears. Has three stub pads for stability for when set on a table. Not surprising due to the age (and casting method) there are some casting flaws and some light pitting on the piece. While this piece can be used, and the flaws are fairly minor it really should be preserved as a display piece of historical interest. Has a nice rim around the bow.
Unmarked.
10” 1/2 diameter (Excluding the ears)
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Not designed for stovetop use but for hanging. Cooking surface has casting flaws and pitting. While it could be used this one is best kept as a display piece, or non cooking piece for historical reasons.

Nice little posnet style spider skillet (rounded bottom) with three stubby legs. Style of pot dates this to roughly 1840-1870 era making it roughly 150 years old. Definitely a nice old school piece which could still be used but would make a superb display piece for any collector. Features a remarkably smoothed glassy cooking surface with a number of small casting flaws creating little dimples in the cooking surface. Sits on three stubby legs ~ 3/8” high. Bottom is gated and has a large raised number 8 about 1” 1/4 tall. Look like the handle on the form (not the piece of iron, but the form used to make the mold the iron was made in) was repaired at some point as you can see the area on the handle.
Marked: “8” on the bottom
9” 1/8 diameter (excluding handle)
Cleaned via lye method and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks or chips. Nice glassy cooking surface with several casting voids. Should fill in with use. Outside has a number of casting flaws, but nothing which would effect use, or value.

A very nice old spider skillet (skillet with legs) with the rounded bottom (posnet style) made before 1870. While this piece can absolutely be used it’s a better display piece than a user due to shallow broad pitting. Bottom gated. This piece may have had a tin lid at one point, but it may have never have had one. Has a lipped rim that suggests a lid could have been used however. Piece has some light to moderate pitting as it was found in a damp farmhouse basement in upstate New York. Stands on three legs. Would be great for a Civil War re-enactor.

Wagner made Griswold #4 skillet with original paper label – being sold as found. Old original preseasoning has worn away with age and there is some surface rust, but most of that should wipe away very easily with just some vinegar and water. Due to the original paper label still in the pan we have done nothing to it, as a collector might want it that way. However if someone wants it restored we can do that for you. Piece has great polishing marks visible above the label and has a very small wobble.
Marked: with Griswold small logo, then “7 Inch Skillet Made in USA C” on the bottom with a C on the underside of the handle and the number 4 on the top of the handle.
7” diameter
Unrestored.
No cracks, chips. Small wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is unused and looks like it has great polishing marks..

Amazing older piece and I’ve never seen another like this. More of a half skillet/shallow skillet than handled griddle because of higher walls than you see on griddles (1/2” deep on the interior). This one reminds me very much of the Martin shallow skillets. Handle is hollowed on the underside, outset heat ring, high lip raised letters on bottom, decent cooking surface. Sits flat. Casting quality overall is decent with some casting flaws. Bottom shows some long time wood stove use with considerable light sulfur pitting and some deeper pitting from earlier in it’s life Some minor roughness to the cooking face from past rusting, but very fine roughness that will smooth out as the pan gets used. This is a really cool piece.
Marked: “NE 8” in raised letters 1/2” high
12” 3/4 diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips, or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface primitive but better than most comparable piece with some casting flaws and not fine polished like later pieces were.. Will only get better with use.
