No one knows which foundry really made these skillets, but they are widely believed to have been made in western NY or PA, as that seems to be the area where they are most commonly found. They are heavy, and have a heavy (large dimple) hammered pattern in the iron compared to those made by Griswold, Wagner, Lodge or Chicago Hardware. Certainly vintage going back until at least the 1950s from what we can tell.
Lower grade user piece. Hammered. Sits flat, but has a pitted cooking surface which is usable but ugly and will take a fair bit of time to fill in and smooth over. A cheap hammered piece for someone. Would be a great wall hanger.
Marked: “5” on the top of the handle. Four dimples on the underside of the handle is the only other marking.
8” diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips, or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is pitted but should improve with use.
