  • #1951 I like Ike ashtray - skillet1

    Item 1951

Please note all pictures on our site are of the actual piece you will receive, not a stock photo of a similar piece.  Additionally all our pieces unless marked otherwise are fully restored and seasoned.  Just wash them and start cooking.
    Sold as found.

This is a promotional advertising skillet made for Dwight Eisenhower’s 1952 presidential run for president.  This is a VERY rare piece as not a single cast iron collector or any of the presidential collectors we have spoken to have ever seen one.  It appears to have been cast by Martin Stove and Range in Birmingham Alabama based on the design and style.  It looks like it was originally plated with brass and swathes of it remain and what is left is a very cool patina.  This is a special piece for any collector.

Marked : “I Like Ike” on the face of the ashtray

    3” 3/8 diameter,  4” 3/8 cigarette holder to cigarette holder, 5” 5/8 overall length.  1” high.

    Unrestored

Sold as found.  no cracks, or chips are present.

    $80 shipped

    Item 1177

Museum quality!  and when I say that there is no exaggeration, the only other one of these we know of is in the Buffalo Bill Cody museum.  Likely made by a blacksmith on the western plains, or west coast of the United States. This skillet certainly predates the Civil War and could date back to 1800.  It’s a very unique and special piece.  Has some attributes of both cast iron and wrought iron, but there are enough hammer marks on the bottom to makes us lean towards it not being a flask cast piece, but a wrought iron piece.  There appears to be a gate/grind mark near the neck of the handle.  Hook at the end of the handle was probably for hanging.

    Unmarked.

    15” 1/4 diameter.  handle is roughly 13” 1/4 long

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips.  Meant for fire use, not meant to sit flat.  Light pitting, tool marks and other signs of age are present.  While you could use this piece it really is a historical piece that should be put on display.

  • #783 Spider skillet 10 inch with crack display piece - 1

    DISPLAY PIECE.

A display piece that will look great in any kitchen. This is an old spider skillet which was made for hearth or fireside cooking.  It looks primitive and is not suitable for using without a repair so it has been made ready for display.  Sits on three triangular legs.  Gate marked on the bottom.  We are calling this a display piece because of a small (slightly larger than a pinhole) hole in one wall.

    9” 7/8 diameter, 5” 1/4 tall.  Handle is 7 long.

Cleaned via electrolysis and painted to prevent rust for display.

    $45.99 shipped

As always we are happy to combine shipping, as well as take back pieces if you are not satisfied.  (Please see return policy)

This is a really old piece in collector grade.  Pretty, old gate marked handled griddle made c. 1870-1880 (roughly 150 years old).  Great cooking surface with great polishing marks and a few scars.   A great example of smaller foundry work.  WIll be a great user.   This one has a little history and a lot of character.  Bottom shows pitting from use over a wood stove.  Inset heat ring.  Small mark under handle could be an “x”, outside shows some casting marks.

Marked:  “8” on handle maybe a tiny “x” under the handle

    10” diameter

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips or bow.  Bit of a wobble on a sheet of glass.  Nice cooking surface with some flea bite tool marks and some scars from use.  Should fill in as it gets some kitchen time.  Outer casting is a bit cruder, and shows some roughness and even light pitting.

Amazing older piece and I’ve never seen another like this.  More of a half skillet/shallow skillet than handled griddle because of higher walls than you see on griddles (1/2” deep on the interior).  This one reminds me very much of the Martin shallow skillets.  Handle is hollowed on the underside, outset heat ring, high lip raised letters on bottom, decent cooking surface.  Sits flat. Casting quality overall is decent with some casting flaws.  Bottom shows some long time wood stove use with considerable light sulfur pitting and some deeper pitting from earlier in it’s life   Some minor roughness to the cooking face from past rusting, but very fine roughness that will smooth out as the pan gets used.  This is a really cool piece.

Marked:  “NE 8” in raised letters 1/2” high

    12” 3/4 diameter

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips, or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass.   Cooking surface primitive  but better than most comparable piece with some casting flaws and not fine polished like later pieces were..  Will only get better with use.

    Item 1925

No one knows which foundry really made these skillets, but they are widely believed to have been made in western NY or PA, as that seems to be the area where they are most commonly found.  They are heavy, and have a heavy (large dimple) hammered pattern in the iron compared to those made by Griswold, Wagner, Lodge or Chicago Hardware.  Certainly vintage going back until at least the 1950s and possibly as early as the 1910-1920 period.
Good piece typical of this foundry.  Heavy hammered pattern on the outer wall.  Very good which has some minor casting flaws and an almost glassy smooth cooking surface  (with a few scars) when you run fingers over it.  Should only improve as it’s used.  Tiny wobble means but so small it should be good on any range.

Marked: “3” on the top of the handle.  A single dimple on the underside of the handle is the only other marking.

    6” 1/8 diameter

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chip.  Very small wobble when tested on a sheet of glass.  Cooking surface is almost glassy but will only get better with use.

Good piece typical of this foundry.  Heavy hammered pattern on the outer wall.  Decent cooking surface which has some minor casting flaws and an almost smooth cooking surface when you run fingers over it.  Should only improve as it’s used.  Small wobble means its a really good piece for a gas range, not so good on glass.

This is a pretty typical piece from this foundry – very nice but has some highly visible pouring flaws, but those only make this a bit more interesting.  Uneven cooking surface with areas that are smoother and areas that are more pebbled.  There are some very minor voids on the cooking surface but those will fill in with use.  Very thin handle

Marked: “3” on the top of the handle.  A pair  of dimples on the underside of the handle is the only other marking.

    6” diameter

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.

No cracks, chips.  Wobbles when tested on a sheet of glass.  Cooking surface is decent and uneven with some better polished areas and some pebbled areas when touched. Will cook very well and improve with use.

Lower grade user piece.  Hammered.  Sits flat, but has a pitted cooking surface which is usable but ugly and will take a fair bit of time to fill in and smooth over.   A cheap hammered piece for someone.  Would be a great wall hanger.

Marked: “5” on the top of the handle.  Four dimples on the underside of the handle is the only other marking.

    8” diameter

Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
