This is an oddball piece. Clearly Lodge, clearly hammered, but larger than most of the Lodge toy skillets that you see. My initial impression is that this was for a larger cast iron play set from back in the day but I am not sure this wasn’t a promotional item or even a size 1 skillet from Lodge’s hammered line. Either way it’s a cool little piece, not finely polished but quite nice.
No markings
3” 7/8 diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Tiniest hint of wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Very nice casting.
$35 shipped, but get a $5 shipping rebate if you buy it with another full sized piece that includes shipping.

The made in USA on the bottom is unusual too – as it’s tiny, and not in the same style as the 1960s made in USA markings. That makes me think it’s much earlier. Either way it’s a cool little piece, not finely polished but quite nice.

Ordinarily we wouldn’t have restored a piece this old if we could help it but there was no seasoning left, just a coat of rust, so restoration was the best way to preserve this piece of history.
Museum Grade piece. Over 200 years old. This one is old and interesting, in fact in might be the coolest piece to pass thought our shop ever. Ear style suggests this was made just after the Revolutionary War, but while the body may have been cast then I do wonder if the bail was added later, possibly after the legs broke or were removed? But the truth is that they could have been removed from an old mold at the foundry. Bail is a blacksmith made squared, wrought iron one with a hand peened ring attached. Bail was designed not to be attached, but draped over the pan ears and pegged. Meaning that the bail could be removed and possibly used on other pots. Like most early iron this one has casting flaws and some wear. Bottom shows pitting from being used over wood. Very usable, but this is a piece of history and I’d put it on display except for very special occasions where I might actually use it. No cracks, chips.
Completely unmarked
9” 1/4 diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Bottom is rounded and gated and not designed for stovetop use. Interior is amazing for the age with only casting flaws and some age wear. Almost glassy to the touch.

Heavy duty Lodge 3 notch skillet made c. 1930-1960 Heavy bottom make this a great pan for searing and finishing. This was a piece made with the polished (non-pebbled but smooth) Lodge finish but it has a fair amount of wear and a lot of flea bite tool marks on the cooking surface. Those will fill in with use, and this pan should get to a glassy or almost glassy finish. Has a heat ring and sits flat.
Marked: “6 D” on the bottom of the pan
9” diameter
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips, bow or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is better than typical pebbled Lodge, it was a polished piece but has a large amount of tool marks on it. Should only improve with use.

Heavy early Lodge skillet with single notch heat ring from the 1910-1930 era. Smoothed but without the “extra polished” cooking surface of the highest end pieces, so it shows more casting texture towards the walls. Slightly textured cooking surface with flea bite tool marks. Much better than modern Lodge in terms of texture.
Marked: “5” on the handle.
7” 3/4 diameter (excluding pour spouts and handle)
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips, bow or wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Cooking surface is mostly smoothed but pebbled around the edges due to the smoothing method used with flea bite tool marks. Those should smooth over an fill in with use. Will only get better.

Some people swear these were made by Lodge, others swear they were not, but the design is the same as Lodge skillets with the one notch heat ring made between 1910-1930. If the “2p” skillets were not smaller than Lodge’s of the same number there would be no question. So did a contemporary copy Lodge’s design? or were these a smaller, cheaper version, put out by Lodge just like BSR did with it’s S line? Some collectors believe this is a Blacklock skillet – Pre-dating Lodge (The Blacklock foundry became Lodge about 1910), so I can’t say. My gut says they are a Lodge product but we may never know. Cooking surface is almost glassy to the touch with only some flea bite tool marks and very minor casting flaws marring the surface. Has a small wobble as typical of pieces of the era. Really an excellent piece. Not quite perfect but very close.
Marked: with the number “3” on the top of the handle, and “2p” on the bottom.
6” diameter (excluding pour spouts)
Cleaned via lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil.
No cracks, chips. Moderate wobble when tested on a sheet of glass. Almost glassy to the touch cooking surface with only light tool marks and casting flaws. Those should fill in easy with a little use.

This is a Wagner Ware # 3 skillet made between 1930-1960. It was the luxury model – plated with nickel to give a more “modern” look for the housewife of the age who didn’t want to be seen as old fashioned in the kitchen. The plating on this one isn’t bad, but you can see where it has worn away in spots. That is only external and won’t detract from usability. Has a glassy cooking surface which is flat, glassy and still shows signs of mill marks.
Markings: “Wagner Ware Sidney -O-” (the high stylized logo) then “1053A” on the bottom and “3” on the handle.
Size: 6” 1/2 diameter
Cleaned lye method, hand buffed and seasoned with 3 layers of non-GMO canola oil
No cracks, chips. Small wobble when tested on a sheet of glass, so not ideal for a glass top stove. Cooking surface is really superb, nice and glassy with very, very light flea bite tool marks. Should only get better with use.

Unrestored. This one was lightly cleaned so as not to damage original seasoning and a new layer of seasoning was added for additional protection.
This is a old spider skillet with the round bottom a type that was popular until just after the Civil war. Bottom gate marked, sits on three stubby legs. Small hanging hole. This one is a little deeper than the ones you usually see. Condition of the interior is remarkable – smooth as glass with only some casting voids as flaws.
Marked #10
11’ diameter.

No cracks, may be some minor edge chipping on the handle but i think it is casting flaw. Sits on it’s legs. Cooking surface is just stunningly smooth with only a few casting voids marring the perfection.

A very nice old spider skillet (skillet with legs) with the rounded bottom (posnet style) made before 1860. This is a good ready to use piece, but it will make an excellent display too. Bottom gated. This piece may have had a tin lid at one point. Has a lipped rim that suggests a lid could have been used however. Piece has some pinpoint pitting and tool marks on the interior. Stands on three stubby legs.

Ordinarily I’d say a repair hurts the value of a skillet, but repairs like this, which are well over 100 years old and were made by a blacksmith or tinker are remarkable and far rarer than more perfect pans. They show the love that someone had for this piece, and the effort that went into it. In this case it elevates what would have already been a nice pan into something quite exceptional. This will make any collector proud, and it could easily be restored to use.
Amazing collector piece. This is a Posnet style round bottomed skillet made between 1840-1860 with an incredible old repair. The standout part of this piece is the blacksmith made repair that was made in this piece and which certainly was made before 1900. It consists of a hand wrought iron plate that was pinned with no less than 10 brass pins to re-secure the handle to the pan. Walls are remarkably squared for the design and certainly was part of the transition to a flat bottom skillet. Stands on three short legs less than 1/2” high. Cooking surface while unrestored looks to be in great shape and looks like it could be exceptional (please see photos.) Still has much of the original cureFlat upper handle with hanging hole. Bottom gated.
